There is a story in the Scripture of a certain woman that was accused of committing adultery, perhaps one of the most severe punishable offense in her society. The punishment was death by stoning. Escorted by her accusers, she was on her way to face her penalty when her accusers suddenly decided to ask Jesus his opinion about her case. His answer was one that not only saved the woman but convicted the accusers of their hypocrisy. The result? Her accusers left her and the woman was spared from death. Jesus told the woman that he too, would not accuse her of her transgressions, but that she should no longer be involved in sin again.(John 8: 3-11)

Another story from the Scripture is the story of the paralytic man who was bedridden for 38 long years, and who was used to lying by the pool of Bethesda, waiting to be healed some day. The chances of him being the first one to be inside the pool exactly at the time when the water was being stirred by an angel of God were slim to none, as there was always a large crowd waiting to do exactly that (only the first person in the water was healed). Jesus, knowing that this man was in this state for a long time, healed him, and the man walked away carrying his mat. A long forgotten man was made whole.(John 5:3-8)

There are many more stories in the Scripture where the forgotten or the hopeless have been touched by the Lord and were spared from their dire or hopeless situations. Many centuries before Jesus came to earth, one of the prophets described him like this. “A broken reed he will not break and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.” (Isaiah 42:3)

The idea behind a “broken reed’ is something which is beyond repair, or in a state of hopelessness. The same is true of a ‘smoldering wick’, or a ‘flickering candle’ (according to another translation), a candle that is barely giving light and is smoking, the light almost out. Both mean to say Jesus does not break the already broken and does not put out the little hope of someone who is possibly hopeless.(Matthew 12:18-21)

This particular verse came to my mind this past weekend as I was discussing with a friend, how we, the friends, should earnestly continue to uplift in prayer a certain nation that is close to our hearts, and whose overall situations is growing worse by the day. My friend replied that he had been pleading with the Lord for a very long time but had given up now, as there seemed to be no hope for the foreseeable future.

Then I remembered; ‘A broken reed he will not break….”, I refuse to believe the hopelessness and frustrations on the ground that could break the people, and choose to hold onto the promise of the one who will not give up on that nation. I also refuse to believe that the little glimmer of hope the people have been experiencing in the past few months is finally gone, because again, I choose to hold onto the promise that states, “a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.”

In like manner, if anyone is troubled by anything that seems beyond hope, whether it be health issues, financial situations, family problems, etc…I hope and pray that you hold on to the promises of the one who never destroys the little that you have, but can even fix everything that looks beyond repair. 

In conclusion Jesus is Everything you need and He is your Savior. He has healings, salvation, deliverance, miracles, restoration and supernatural guidance He is the only candidate uniquely qualified to fill Your heart to direct your path in the way that you should go and He will give you Eternal life.

NOW MAY OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF, AND OUR GOD AND FATHER, WHO HAS LOVED US AND GIVEN US EVERLASTING CONSOLATION AND GOOD HOPE BY GRACE, COMFORT YOUR HEART AND ESTABLISH YOU IN EVERY GOOD WORD.  Amen.  ( 2 THESS 2:16-17 )
